Who We Are

Calvary Chapel of Delaware County

what do we do?

We create environments that are a catalyst to encountering God, growing as a disciple, and connecting as a community to impact the world.

Our Mission

To lead people on a journey to become fully-devoted followers of Christ.

What to Expect

Our Sunday morning gatherings happen at 9 & 11 a.m. When you walk into the Sanctuary, you'll notice a warm and easy-going atmosphere. No dress code, so come in whatever makes you feel comfortable! Our greeters and ushers can answer any questions you may have.

Midweek is one of the best things we do at ccdelco. Wednesdays throughout the year all look a little bit different. Make sure you stay up to date on what is happening via our church calendar for 26 weeks of the year. We alternate between Sizzlin Summer, Calvary Campus, and Verse-by-Verse teaching. Wednesday nights are laid back, and a great setting to invite friends to!

We may be biased, but we think we have the best cafe in the area! Come early or stay late on a Sunday or come on out on a weekday and grab a bite to eat or coffee with friends. We believe that conversations happen around tables, and our cafe has proven to be an amazing ministry tool. All that to say... come hungry! The Table hours are below:

Sundays: 8:00 AM – 1:30 PM
Tuesdays: 7:30 AM – 1:00 PM
Thursdays: 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Wednesday & Friday hours vary by event.

We love music, all kinds of music. From hymns to modern worship songs, we love starting our services praising our Lord and pray that this time of worship helps you connect with God.

Here at ccdelco we follow a verse-by-verse teaching style, which we believe will help you engage with the Word in a fresh and linear way. Topical message series are sprinkled throughout the year.

We hope you feel right at home at ccdelco. We want you to know that we're glad you're here, whether you're just starting to explore Christianity, or you've been a believer for a long time. See you on Sunday.

Our History

Calvary Chapel of Delaware County is part of the larger association of like-minded churches as a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Their supreme desire is to know Christ and to be conformed into His image by the power of the Holy Spirit. Ccdelco began with a dream on the playground at Media Elementary School as Pastor Bob and his wife, Monica, played with their young daughter. They looked across the street at the Media Theatre and dreamed about all that God might do through the local church in Delaware County, PA. It was at that time that God gave them the scripture Isaiah 43:18-20: "I will even made a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. The beasts of the field will honor Me, the jackals and the ostriches, because I give water in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, to give drink to My people, My chosen."

Pastor Bob, sensing that God had a call on his life, began leading a small Bible study in Ridley Park, PA. Pastor Bob met Pastor Steve Smickley and shared his vision for planting a church in Delco. The church was organized, and Calvary's first service was held in the Barnstormers Theater in Ridley Park in the fall of 1993.

By 1996, Calvary Chapel of Delaware County (now branded ccdelco) had outgrown The Barnstormers Theater facility and moved to The Christian Academy building in Media, PA., (now called "708").

In 1998, Pastor Bob left the Boeing Company after 12 years full time, to pursue ministry, and in 1999, Pastor Steve Smickley joined him. Sunday services moved to downtown Media — the adults meeting in the historic Media Theatre and the children in the very elementary school Pastor Bob had originally dreamed (Media Elementary). All other ministries continued to meet at the 708 facility. In 2003, a 24-acre property was purchased in Chadds Ford, PA, and a building campaign ensued several years later. By God's grace on April 18, 2010, the doors were open to a spacious new 35,000 sq. ft. facility. A new chapter in Calvary's journey began.

The  24 acre property has become a launching pad for vibrant ministry. In addition to regional conferences, outdoor Sizzlin Summer services (slogan "We Do Church Outside"), and other ministry ventures. ccdelco became a "justice church" in 2013, partnering with IJM to see human trafficking and bonded slavery come to an end around the world. Our annual "Compassion and Justice Weekends" have become a hallmark of our church; and ignited the hearts of many to serve the most marginalized of our society (our exhibit also went on tour with IJM).

In 2014, we embarked on a 20/20 vision, which includes the opening of a classical Christian school, extension campus east of ccdelco, phase 2 building project, and an increased partnership with one of our global partners — Nairobi Chapel in Kenya.

In 2016, ccdelco completed phase 2, a 15,000 sq. ft. addition that included a chapel with three breakout rooms, new youth and multi-use space, a bookstore, and The Table, our signature gathering space with full coffee bar and restaurant.

We continue to offer Sizzlin Summer outdoor services that have seen over 1,400 baptisms and continues to be one of the great evangelistic outreaches the Lord has used.

We are partnering with ministries in 5 global countries, with our flagship partner — Nairobi Chapel in Kenya. Having planted over 200 daughter churches in Kenya and around the world, we are partnering with this ministry in a variety of ways, including the venture of turning a former IDP camp into a fully functioning village with a local church, school, medical center, etc. We look forward to an exchange program of staff with Nairobi Chapel, and possibly planting a church in a Gateway city.

On September 5, 2018, we welcomed the inaugural class of Innovate Academy, our Classical Christian Academy for students PreK to 6th grade. Our blended model of three days onsite, two days offsite has been an incredible blessing to our church family.

God has been gracious, and we look forward to the coming years and all that He may lead us into by His grace.
